Everything should be fine now

We just moved the site to a new, faster server to better serve the needs of the community. With this the error messages should have gone away. If you still see anything broken, or something doesn't work please drop me a line using the contact form.

Site error messages

I just noticed, that some users get error messages on the site, which shows up in pink error messages on the top of the page. I am working presently to get this fixed.

For the future, if any error message pops up on the site, or you notice that someting is not working as it should be expected, please notify me so I can get this fixed. The above error messages were present on the site for several days because it appeared only on special circumstances for a group of users only; unfortunatelly not for me.

Hope you found the information on this site useful. I would have loved to have this information available to me many years ago, when I got started in America. Lack of this information over the years cost me not only a lot of money I could have saved, but also cost me many-many hours in lost time, trying to figure things out by myself, doing things the wrong way.

Airline travel regulations

Airline travel regulations are becoming stricter year by year, making airline travel more and more difficult. While airline travel regulations in the past were just common sense rules, some of them these days are getting borderline paranoic. Here are a few of the most common airline travel regulations you should know about.

Flights, airports, check-in

About Airports

Airports are divided into several terminals. Often a terminal is so big it's like a small airport in itself. Every terminal has several gates, sometimes up to 50 or more gates. Most terminals have shops and stores where you can shop, often a dedicated food place called food court where you can eat. How you can get from one terminal to another varies from airport to airport. At some airports you just walk, at other ones there are dedicated buses, airport train (often called concourse) or monorail.

Car insurance

In America car insurance insures not the car, but the driver. In other words, if you have car insurance, and your wife doesn't if she makes an accident she (you) will have to pay for the damage. So the insurance coverage is related to persons.

Basic auto insurance policies are made up of a combination of the six types of coverage:

Bank account

Sooner or later you will need to open a bank account. Probably the first question what you will be asked is what type of account would you like to open.
There are mainly two major types of bank accounts in America:
- checking account, and
- savings account
